Work Experience

General Work Experience Education is supervised employment which is intended to assist students in acquiring desirable work habits, attitudes and career awareness.  This type of work experience does not need to be directly related to the student’s educational goals.

Students can earn up to four units of General Work Experience per semester and up to six units overall.

Interested students should enroll in WKEXP 97 – General Work Experience and select 1, 2, 3, or 4 units of credit. The course may be taken repeatedly until the six-unit maximum is reached.

Occupational Work Experience

Occupational Work Experience Education is supervised employment extending classroom based occupational learning at an on-the-job learning station relating to the student’s educational or occupational goal.

Occupational Work Experience Requirements:

• Student must be employed or volunteering in a job which directly relates to their college major or career goal.
• There are three interrelated limits on units.
• Student can earn up to four (4) units of Occupational Work Experience per area each semester.
• Students can earn up to eight units of Occupational Work Experience overall each semester.
• Students can earn up to sixteen total units of Cooperative Work Experience.
• Occupational Work Experience courses may be repeated, subject to the limits above.
• Student must become engaged in a new or expanded responsibilities on the job.
• Employer must provide reasonable assurance that the student will be properly supervised and evaluated.
