The Columbia College/Tuolumne County Fire Department Station 79 is a cooperative program between Columbia College and Tuolumne County Fire Department. The design of the program is to take Firefighters who have graduated the Columbia College Fire Academy (or another accredited academy) and give them the opportunity to work at working fire station. This gives the new firefighters a chance to hone their skills they have learned at the academy and build on them. It also gives them a chance to work on their California State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 and 2 task books. Another advantage to the program it gives them a chance to learn how to live at a firehouse, learning chain of command, daily firehouse routines, apparatus checks, and time management. While they are here, they are encouraged to continue their education at Columbia College and complete their Associate Degree program.
