First Aid/CPR/AED Classes
Columbia College Community Education is proud to provide both Basic First Aid, CPR and AED for the lay rescuer as well as Basic Life Support (BLS) for the professional rescuer/first responder. Whether you are a community member who wants to be trained and ready to respond in the event of an emergency or a business wanting your employees to be prepared for workplace emergencies, we provide programming to fit your needs. Below are descriptions to find the class that is right for you.

Basic First Aid/CPR/AED
This course is intended for the lay rescuer and is taught to American Heart Association / OSHA workplace standards. Topics covered include medical and trauma emergencies, environmental emergencies, bystander and rescuer safety and basic first aid for managing the emergencies until more advanced help arrives.
Course Objectives and Outcomes:
- The successful student will be able to demonstrate competence in safety practices, including removing protective gloves; correct use of an epinephrine injector; controlling bleeding; finding the patient’s problem; and splinting. The student will also demonstrate correct and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation using a barrier device on adults, infants and children and will demonstrate correct use of an automated electric defibrillator.
- The successful student will also demonstrate the ability to work with others and to observe safety measures regarding communicable disease.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued an AHA Card valid for two (2) years.

BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR/AED
This course is intended for the first responder/professional rescuer only and is taught to American Heart Association standards. This professional-level training is taught as a two-person rescue with information on team rescue.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued an AHA Card valid for two (2) years.
