The Certificate of Achievement, Associate Child Development Teacher/Future Educators, provides students with a foundation in high-quality caregiving and environments for children including infant, toddler, preschool and school age. Coursework includes knowledge of child development from the prenatal stage through adolescence, understanding the child in the context of their family and community, developmentally appropriate practices, inclusive, equitable, and responsible guidance practices, and placement in a supervised field experience. This certificate prepares students for entry-level teaching roles with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children in private as well as state and federally-funded programs. The courses included satisfy the education requirements for the California Child Development Permit Matrix at the Associate Teacher level. This certificate prepares students to work at the aide or teacher level in infant, toddler, and preschool settings, family child care, before and after school programs, and elementary education settings.
